Thanksgiving or Christmas Cake

Ingredients

• 2 cups bread sponge
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 teaspoon soda, dissolved in 1/2 cup water
• 1 cup lard and butter mixed
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon cloves
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 2 cups raisins
• 1 cup mixed fruit (figs, orange peel, cherries, citron)
• 3 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

1. Mix all ingredients together well and let rise two and one-half hours. Bake in two loaves in a moderate oven for 2 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. This cake is best made two or more months before wanted for use. Wrap in waxed paper, put in a tin box and seal.
