Ingredients
- 2 cups bread sponge
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon soda, dissolved in 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup lard and butter mixed
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups raisins
- 1 cup mixed fruit (figs, orange peel, cherries, citron)
- 3 1/2 cups flour
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together well and let rise two and one-half hours. Bake in two loaves in a moderate oven for 2 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. This cake is best made two or more months before wanted for use. Wrap in waxed paper, put in a tin box and seal.
