Plain White Cake

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 cups sifted flour
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
• 3 teaspoons baking powder
• 2/3 cup milk
• 1 teaspoon lemon extract
• 3 egg whites

Instructions

1. 1Cream butter, add sugar, and beat well. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together three times, and add alternately with the milk. Add flavoring and fold in stiffly beaten whites. Pour into a greased pan. Bake in a moderate oven for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
