Fig Cake

Ingredients

• 2 tablespoons shortening
• Pinch salt
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups bread crumbs (fine)
• 1/2 cup milk or water
• 4 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 cup flour
• 1/4 pound figs (sliced)

Instructions

1. 1Mix shortening, salt, sugar, and nutmeg; beat and stir in the eggs, then the bread crumbs.
2. 2Sift the baking powder and flour together and add the figs.
3. 3Combine the mixtures and turn the batter into a loaf-shaped or round pan with cone, well greased.
4. 4Bake in a moderate oven for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
