Eggless Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup butter or cooking oil
• 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
• 1/2 cup cocoa
• 1 cup hot water
• 1 teaspoon soda
• 2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

1. 1Cream butter and sugar, add cocoa mixed with one-half of water, and soda in other half.
2. 2Add flour with baking powder and salt.
3. 3Lastly, beat in sour milk and vanilla.
4. 4Bake in layers in a moderate oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Use Chocolate Filling (see page 197.)
